My dad had a bad stroke 15 years ago. The doctors don’t know how he is alive and functional enough to do his own bathroom, shave, shower, and drag half his body around. He can’t talk and has asked me to help him die on three occasions. He has no sense of time, very short term memory, and lives in sort of a timeless world. My mom doesn’t want to be alone and keeps having medical procedures done to keep him alive all this time. The bill is over 1 million dollars paid by Medicare and/or military retirement benefits for medical. If the grandchildren ever ask me why society can’t help them with school or why don’t they get medical or retirement I’ll tell them society decided to spend it on grandpa instead of them! In fact to make grandma happy they bankrupted the county. The fact is most medical costs are in the last 4 weeks of life on CLEARLY dying people that should be in a hospice. A major shift to hospice care for the CLEARLY dying would make Medicare and Medicaid solvent forever! No doubt some nut will cite that one out of a million case where they shouldn't be been sent to a hospice to die with dignity. Also, my great aunt at age 83 was dying of brain cancer. She didn’t recognize a picture of her husband, didn’t know her real name, only her nickname, etc. I visited her and the hospital was happy to have a relative show up. I told them to keep her clean, not in pain, but stop all procedures such as the chemo for her brain cancer. After all, what was the point, she didn’t know her own legal name anymore? The hospital spent about $350,000 on her treatment all billed to medicare. As a society we can’t survive spending money on keeping people alive, especially if they don’t want to be alive or even know their own name. While visiting my aunt they gave her a flu shot… why? Now the crazies ironically who are devout Christians will send me all kinds of hateful emails if I sign my real name. I’m a real Christian, I’m not afraid to die. And when my time comes I plan to die with dignity in a hospice and not be kept alive as a sadistic science project to run up bills for a hospital to meet its cash flow requirements.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
